Traffic Collision Avoidance on MT-VisionAir:
Display of Ryan/Avidyne, ZAON or FLARM Signals

MT TCAS - your window through the clouds

"One is often surprised, how close up a TCAS target already is, once it becomes visual." says Steffen Keppler, ATP Pilot. TCAS can be an almost irreplaceable aid here. Direction and trend of named traffic can be instantly identified instead of the otherwise typical long observation. This saves valuable time.

Integration of Traffic Collision Avoidance Signals in the MT-VisionAir

MT-TCAS

Transponder coded Ryan/Avidyne BX signals
(TAS 600 serie)

 + speed
+ direction
+ relative height
+ trend (climb and sink rate)

FLARM Interface

FLARM-/FLOICE signals

MT-TCAS und FLARM Interface

MT-TCAS

Advantages

  • Display of surounding traffic with SQUAWK.
  • Blinking aircraft symbils for optimumvisibility on the Moving Map
  • Enhanced information due to MT-DSS:
    • Color coded aircraft symbols(no conventional diamonds)
    • All information at a glance

FLARM-Interface

Advantages

  • Display of surounding traffic with SQUAWK.
  • Blinking aircraft symbils for optimumvisibility on the Moving Map
  • Enhanced information due to MT-DSS:
    • Color coded aircraft symbols(no conventional diamonds)
    • All information at a glance

Disadvantages

  • Receiver tuned only to the signals of other FLARM/FLOICE transmitters. Does not display the transponder coded signals.

The Dynamic Synchronized Simulation (DSS) Technology: Simulation of direction and trend

As a target is located in the area, a simulator is activated, the traffics performance is analyzed and the simulator is calibrated accordingly. The motion of the aircraft becomes extracted from that simulation and immediately visualized. Thus the pilot is immediately able to recognize speed and direction and the resulting threat at a glance at the MT - MFD.
This technology from Moving Terrain is absolutely new and Future Oriented: By Co-Simulation and subsequent visualization of ambient traffic motion, hazardous situations can be avoided.

A superb awareness with respect to other traffic in the neighbouring airspace is created and presented on an MFD. The efficient Moving Terrain  Multi Function Display saves space in the panel. No further screen or control unit is necessary.

Additional information

Symbols MT TCAS Blinking Aircraft: Optimum visibility – above all on the Moving Map

Indication of the relative height with regard to your own aircraft (in 100 ft)

Red Arrow: Climbs / descends faster than 500 fpm

The Speed Vector: Plots 15 seconds ahead and allows conclusions on the category of aircraft.

Low Cost option: ZAON Interface

ZAON Interface

  • less information:
            • indication of relative height with regard to your own aircraf
            • no indication of direction, trend and speed
  • Reduced accuracy of the signals: surrounding traffic is within the colored area
  • Passivity: signals are not scanned by zaon itself, but are only received when traffic "answers" to the scan of an active radar (e.g. ground based radar)

Reduction of Workload in the Cockpit

  • Direction and speed of oncoming traffic is immediately visible on the screen, the pilot does not reserve attention to monitor other instruments.
  • There is more time for airspace observation and other pilot duties.
  • All information is on one display: on your Moving Terrain Multi Function Display - which has further options to offer you safety during your flight.

An analog and self-explanatory Traffic Collision Avoidance System.

Colour Coding

MT TCAS - higher than critical cylinder Higher than the „critical cylinder“ (in relation to your own aircraft)
MT TCAS - within critical cylinder, outside danger zone Within the „critical cylinder“, distance and direction outside the danger zone
MT TCAS - within critical cylinder, dangerously closeWithin the „critical cylinder“, dangerously close
MT TCAS - lower than critical cylinder

Lower than „critical cylinder“

Visualization of Traffic

MT TCAS can be visualized either dedicated or superimposed onto a (terrain) chart. The latter yields a perspective of the targets position with respect to ground references and not only abstract with ...o`clock .... miles  –  a further Moving Terrain safety plus.

Dedicated MT TCAS

 MT TCAS dedicated

Non Dedicated MT TCAS

MT TCAS on ICAO Map

Projection onto the Moving Map: air traffic is immediately perceived with respect to the terrain and thus a fast identification is possible, much faster than „Your traffic is 10 o‘clock, 3 miles“.
